TULIP FESTIVAL IN BOWRAL

Spring played hide and seek here in the Highlands before finally arriving a week ago much to the relief of the Tulip Festival Organisers in Bowral.

Bowral has celebrated the Tulip Festival for the past 55 years.  The design and planting plan varies from year to year and the gardeners usually plant in excess of 60 000 tulips, much to the delight of the thousands of visitors each year.

Getting the tulips to flower at exactly the right time each year is a challenge.  Spring arrived very early last year which meant that many of the tulips were almost over by the time the Festival opened.  Despite the cold spring this year,  only a few tulips failed to open on cue.

The planting design and colour choices this year are a bit too dramatic for my taste.  Hundreds of people would disagree it seems!  See some of my photos below.

Last year's tulips in my own new garden.  The Parrot tulips in the pot were spectacular again this year.

This photo is from last year's Festival.

Below are a few photos of the green and white parrot tulips from my garden.

Wishing you all a great week ahead.

  1. What a visual delight Jenny, I just love tulips on mass and there are so many different colours on offer these days. But I have to say that my favourite are your beautiful white and green parrot tulips.Just love their soft and frilly petals and the green and white is such a beautiful colur combination. My favourite perhaps!!!
Will definately plant them in a pot next year. Have a lovely week too

  5. Love the Bowral Tulip Festival - we usually meet our family there and stay for a couple of nights so we can visit some of the Open Gardens as well (sadly couldn't make it this year). The tulips are stunning and the gardens so beautiful! Bowral is also such a great town to visit - some lovely boutiques and such nice cafes and restaurants there and nearby. Last year my DIL and I went a bit crazy buying boots in the sale at a lovely dress shop. Our littler grand-daughter had great fun trying them on too!
Do you ever have your garden on display Jenny? Maybe one day we'll be there for the festival and see it for real. Best wishes, Pammie
